Preparing your fountain for cold winter temperatures

If it's going to get below 30 degrees outside, you will want to turn off your fountain and allow the water to drain to prevent any cracks from ice expanding in the pot. This can be done by simply removing the stand pipe on jar type fountains, or tipping over self contained shells to allow water to drain. Reservoirs below the pot do not need to be drained as they are not likely to freeze solid. Before you turn the fountain back on, don't forget to fill the pot back up with water first.
